FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Approximately 72 mosquito species will be ready for this summer’s intense rainy season, which begins in late May and runs through October. Since Florida experienced an active hurricane season last year, more and more homeowners are deciding not to repair their damaged pool screen-enclosures making them susceptible to an onslaught of mosquito attacks.

The average price to replace a backyard screen is typically $15,000, with larger enclosures costing $40,000 or more-close to 25 percent of the pool’s total cost. Due to rising prices and waiting lists, many homeowners are opting not to replace their expensive screens. But since building a barrier around the home is only effective method for killing and controlling the mosquito population, homeowners need an alternative.

South Florida-based SWAT Mosquito Systems creates a mosquito prevention perimeter around your home by installing a custom-built misting system, using high-quality stainless steel or nickel-plated nozzles, which are skillfully attached to your fence line, eaves, trees, concrete pillars and gutters. The system stores a pyrethrum-based solution in a large reservoir that will mist three to four times a day for 20-45 seconds. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have approved pyrethrum to kill and repel insects.

“After the beating homeowners received from Hurricane Wilma, SWAT is dedicated to bringing back outdoor recreation to South Florida,” said Steve Jenkins, President of SWAT Mosquito Systems. “We understand how costly it is to replace a pool enclosure and we are happy to offer homeowners with an effective alternative to enable families and friends to once again enjoy cookouts and get-togethers without being eaten alive by mosquitoes.”

Jenkins was instrumental in establishing the first broad scale mosquito misting system in the Texas market, and now brings his expertise to residents and businesses in South Florida.
